Our Story

Grady & Eloise Young

Mr. Grady Young was born September 21, 1917, to the late Dave and Lula Young in Hall County, Georgia. He was baptized at the Cross Plains Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He attended the Cross Plains Baptist Church Community School. He also completed a degree in bible study through the Extension Department of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Nashville, TN.

 

He was ordained as a deacon in 1942. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, the late Eloise Mariah Mosley Young, two daughters, Jessie Irene and Mollie Marie, and one great-grandchild, Tyler Bennett.

Deacon Grady Young, as he was affectionately called, was a lifelong resident of Gainesville/Hall County. He was a devout member and deacon of Cross Plains Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board and other offices for many years. As a devoted Christian, he served as Layman President Emeritus of the Northwestern Baptist Association of Georgia and served 26 years as treasurer of the Congress of Christian Education.

Deacon Young retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Services in 1977. He was also a skilled carpenter and served his community tirelessly while encouraging others to work just as hard.

The mission of the Grady Young Foundation, Inc. is to provide spiritual and financial support to the communities of Gainesville-Hall County and other related communities, by enhancing the communities through scholarship, training and research programs, collaborative work, leadership training and community service, in an effort to contribute to the advancement of society.

General objectives:  To provide scholarships, travel, and educational opportunities, and to promote community activities. The Foundation aspires to be a model to other families and organizations, in its performance, accountability, stewardship, and commitment to excellence.
