Bags of Blessings is a ministry designed to assist mothers with clothing needs for their children. Our mission is to make available clothing for children, birth to two years of age, whose caregivers are unable to provide adequate clothing due to personal or financial complexities and who reside either in crisis/emergency shelters, transitional or low income housing.
Founded in 2003, Bags of Blessings has served, on referral basis, programs such as The House of Ruth, the House of Hope and Families First. Each gift bag is specially prepared and includes a personal letter of encouragement and two to three new or gently worn clothing ensembles. When appropriate, the bag may also include layette items, blankets, coats, hats and socks. Delivery is usually made within 24 to 48 hours after the receipt of request, which are made via phone or e-mail. The Board of Directors for Bags of Blessings currently consists of three members: Genice Johnson, Keith Merritt and Melody Merritt.
The Grady Young Foundation, Inc. Bags of Blessings hopes to broaden its community outreach and continue to increase its efforts to fill requests for assistance. Sharing a similar philosophy, both organizations seek to provide spiritual support by enhancing communities through community service, in effort to contribute to the advancement of society. The Foundation aspires to be a model to other families and organizations in its performance, accountability, stewardship, and commitment to excellence.
